We love to volunteer in our community. Since 2012 we've helped organize the Special Olympics Lions Club International Opening Eyes vision screening program for Georgia Special Olympics athletes. We also volunteer for children’s vision screenings to help provide glasses for kids in need. Our office participates in the InfantSEE program which provides free vision evaluations for infants.
Dr. Nadira Shadeed, OD, FOVDR

Dr. Nadira Shadeed graduated in 2005 from the Southern College of Optometry (SCO) and then completed a one year Residency program in Pediatric Optometry at SCO. The residency program provided advanced clinical experience in pediatric optometry, management of binocular vision disorders, and the developmental and behavioral aspects of vision care that aid in evaluating and treating patients in optometric vision therapy. Dr. Shadeed earned her Fellowship certification in vision development and vision therapy from the Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation Association (OVDRA). Dr. Shadeed was recognized by the Roswell Lion’s Club for providing vision care for Special Olympics athletes. Dr. Shadeed has given presentations to optometrists and other professionals on the topics of Vision Therapy, Amblyopia, Vision and Learning, and Post-Concussion Vision Syndrome. She is a current member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Georgia Optometric Association (GOA), Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation Association (OVDRA), Optometric Extension Program (OEP), and Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA).
Dr. Joe Rouw, OD, FAAO, FOVDR

Dr. Joe Rouw graduated in 2004 from the Southern College of Optometry and then completed a one year Residency program in Ocular Disease where he received extensive training in primary and pediatric eye care. Dr. Rouw earned his Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry and his Fellowship certification in vision development and vision therapy from the Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation Association (OVDRA). He was awarded the "Young Optometrist of the Year" in Georgia for 2013 and the “Bernard Kahn Award” in 2022 which is given in recognition of exemplary service to optometry and the community. Dr. Rouw is Georgia Clinical Director for the Special Olympics Lions Club International Opening Eyes vision screening program. He has given presentations to optometrists and other professionals on the topics of Vision Therapy, Amblyopia, Vision and Learning, and Post-Concussion Vision Syndrome. He is a current member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Georgia Optometric Association (GOA), Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation Association (OVDRA), Optometric Extension Program (OEP), and Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA).

Betsy Gardner, Vision Therapist

Betsy Gardner joined PVDC in August 2024 after her daughter’s successful completion of vision therapy with Dr. Shadeed and Dr. Rouw. This personal experience fueled her passion for the field, leading her to develop our community outreach programs and educational resources. Now a Vision Therapist, Betsy holds a Bachelor of Science from Georgia Tech and is actively pursuing her OVDRA certification, combining her firsthand knowledge of the patient journey with her dedication to clinical excellence.
Vicky Mitchell, Vision Therapist

Vicky Mitchell joined our team in 2026 as a Vision Therapist. Vicky brings a deeply personal and highly specialized background to our practice. Before transitioning into her role as a therapist, she experienced our world firsthand as a vision therapy mom. A licensed Occupational Therapist since 2012, Vicky is adding optometric vision therapy to her established pediatric skillset. Her extensive expertise in sensory processing and early intervention, combined with her OT background, allows her to bring a unique perspective to our team. She is already making a significant impact by integrating visually guided gross motor, fine motor, and primitive reflex training techniques into our vision therapy programs.
Jasmine, Patient Care Coordinator

With over seven years at our practice, our Patient Care Coordinator, Jasmine, knows our clinic inside and out. Though she works remotely, she is an expert on our entire program of care and every step of the patient journey. Whether you have a complex question or just need a quick update for your appointments, Jasmine is always ready to help and is quick to respond to patient outreach.
